An historic stone residence located north of Wilmington, DE, was getting a new life. A couple with young children wanted a space to entertain their family and guests. Part of the driveway was removed and a formal entrance and courtyard with garden space and room for the children to play while the parents sat outside was designed.

A Master Plan was developed for this 3 -acre parcel in Chadds Ford, PA. The family desired gardens, private, play and entertainment areas. A formal dining terrace and pergola with flowering vines, outdoor fireplace, storage shed, gazebo, fenced in play area with playhouse and play structure, arbors, fountain with seating area, new entrance courtyard, planting beds for perennials, bulbs and vegetables with stone walls and hedges were added in a formal layout to complement the architecture.

An entrance for a new house was the first phase of the Master Plan that was implemented for this home on a semi-wooded lot. An elevated entrance terrace with planting beds and supported by stone walls and columns was designed for the front door. A shaded walk with stone walls, columns and plantings acts as a transition from driveway to the entrance terrace.
